Mityana District Woman Member of Parliament Joyce Bagala has intensified her campaign efforts in Kalangalo Subcounty, appealing to residents to renew her mandate in Parliament ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Bagala, who entered Parliament as an independent before joining the National Unity Platform (NUP), is running on a platform focused on unity, accountability, and strengthening the party’s presence across the district.
She continues to openly campaign for NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, urging voters to support both her and the party leader.
During a rally at Mugoye trading centre, Bagala reaffirmed her commitment to grassroots mobilisation and people-centred leadership.
“I am here to ask for your support once again. We have made progress, but there is still much more to be done. I am seeking your trust to continue representing you in Parliament and to amplify the voices of the people of Mityana,” she said.
She was accompanied by several NUP-aligned district leaders, including Annie Miriam Nassali Lugendo, the party’s candidate for Mityana District chairperson, incumbent District Chairperson Patrick Mugisha Nshimye, now contesting the Mityana Municipality seat, and former Mityana South MP Richard Lumu.
The leaders praised Bagala’s consistency and courage in representing the district.
“Bagala has been a strong pillar for Mityana,” Nassali noted. “She has stood firm even when the political environment has not been friendly.”
During her stop in Kiryokya, Bagala criticised security agencies for what she described as continued harassment of NUP supporters during Kyagulanyi’s campaigns.
“It is unacceptable that our people continue to face violence simply because they support NUP,” she said. “We demand respect for human rights and freedom of association.”
Bagala also urged residents to carefully assess candidates in the 2026 elections, warning against being swayed by insults or empty promises. “Look at the candidate’s record, their values, and what they bring to the table,” she said.
Bagala, who defeated NRM’s Judith Nabakooba in the 2021 elections, faces another competitive race in a district where political tensions are rising.
She maintains that her tenure has been marked by legislative activism, consistency, and advocacy for improved services in Mityana.
